Cape Girardeau police are pursuing charges in a late-night high-speed chase down Mount Auburn Road.

At about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday officers tried to stop a Chevy Camaro that matched the description of a car involved a hit-and-run accident from earlier in the month, said department spokesman Cpl. Adam Glueck.

The car took off and reached 90 mph on Mount Auburn Road, he said.

"They discontinued due to high speeds and obvious safety issues," Glueck said.

Officers later found the car at a nearby construction site and impounded it. Officers with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department found the person believed to be the passenger.

He said police believe they know who the driver is and applied for charges. No arrests were made as of Wednesday evening, he said.

There were no injuries or car damage, he said.
