With high-energy performances, strong choreography, great music and imaginative costumes, the department of theater and dance at Southeast Missouri State University has a winning fall dance concert.
The show starts with "Against the Music," a performance by the Southeast Sundancers that is sure to get the crowd energized.
One of the standout performances is "The Journey Within," choreographed by student Heather Connell, a modern-dance-meets-ballet performance in two distinct movements. Quite different, "La Corrida de Torro," choreographed by dance instructor Leslie Miller, is a charming piece set against Bizet's "Carmen."
The piece features both beautiful ballet performances and a humorous parody of a bull fight.
Miller's "Big Band Jazz" follows with more familiar music. After two big productions, the show takes a detour with "Tappin'" choreographed by student Marissa Crozier, who performs with Nikki Eggleston and Aimee Knebel.
With grace and beauty, "Stillness Brewing" by dance instructor Kari Schroeder leads into dancer Melissa Belk's solo "Think Pink" by Miller. Belk's dancing to Henry Mancini's "The Pink Panther" is slightly sexy and works well with the jazzy, smooth sounds of the music.
Miller also choreographed "Jack's Back," another crowd pleaser that features tap dancing to "Mack the Knife."
The show ends as it began, with a high-energy piece, "Shake Bang Boom," by Schroeder, that will have the audience's hearts racing and toes tapping.
