MARBLE HILL -- Floyd Penny saw a need to help people of Bollinger County, and for the third year in a row will distribute food baskets.

He is looking for help so the project can meet needs of a growing number of people.

This year's distribution will take place Dec. 23 at noon at a Main Street storefront that says New Life Fellowship Congregation. The church no longer uses the building.

The first year, Penny handed out 40 food baskets. Last year he gave out 50, and this year he hopes to give more.

"The Lord asked me to reach out and help people who are less fortunate than myself," Penny said.

Penny, who owns RamPower in Cape Girardeau, buys most of the items for the food baskets with his own money. Fred Kelley of Cape Girardeau annually donates 10 baskets.

"There are a lot more people who need than I can supply," Penny said.

Anyone or any organization who would like to assist may hand out items at the same time. Or Penny will pick up items and contributions to add to his distribution.

Specifically, he's hoping that some organization will distribute toys to the youngsters whose families receive food baskets.

"I've gotten a lot of joy by giving to others," Penny said. "I can see they need help. I cut back on things I might want for myself or things I would enjoy so I'm able to do this. I've seen the need and want to help."

To help, contact Penny at (573) 334-2491.
