The rain began at about 6:30 p.m. and calls reporting high water started shortly after. About 15 flooded areas were reported, said Robert Phelps, a dispatcher with Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The roads were mostly clear by 8 p.m. and Phelps said the water would recede by this morning. Most of the vehicles caught in the water were towed or brought home by the owners and no one was injured.
