The heat index topped 100 degrees Wednesday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, and more heat is on the horizon.
At 12:53 p.m., the temperature was 94 degrees, with a heat index of 102, as measured at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. The index measures how hot it feels based on heat and humidity.
According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service, the index could again reach about 100 degrees on Thursday, when the high is expected to hit about 93 degrees at Cape Girardeau. Temperatures and heat index values will be even hotter Friday.
