Heat index could go over 100 degrees again

Extreme heat and humidity could push the heat index higher than 100 degrees for the second day in a row in Southeast Missouri.

In a special weather statement the National Weather Service said the heat index across the area will likely top out between 100 and 105 degrees today, as it did Wednesday.

Storms are also possible tonight.

The high in Cape Girardeau is expected to reach about 93 degrees. The temperature at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport was 87 degrees at 9:53 a.m., with a heat index of 92 degrees.
