Dr. James A. Kinder, a Cape Girardeau pediatrician since 1948, has received the highest state award from the Missouri Affiliate of the American Heart Association (AHA).
Kinder practices at his office in the Pediatric Associates building, 1435 Mount Auburn Road. He received the M. Graham Clark Award last weekend in Springfield during the annual meeting of the American Heart Association, Missouri Affiliate.
Kinder, who has served on the state board of directors for 37 years, served as president of the Missouri Heart Association during 1964-65. Over the years, he has served on a number of committees whose work benefited the health of children, especially efforts that helped to reduce rheumatic fever.
A native of Cape Girardeau, Kinder attended public schools here. He then attended Southeast Missouri State University for two years and then finished his undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He also attended medical school at Washington University, graduating with an M.D. degree in June 1941.
He served in the Army Air Corps in the China-Burma Theatre during World War II. Following an additional two years of training, Kinder opened his practice in here in 1948.
Other Cape Girardeau delegates who attended the meeting last weekend included nurses Sue Nauert, Missouri Affiliate board member; Sharon Williams, Missouri Affiliate board member; Bev Hoover, president-elect of the Cape Girardeau Division Board of Directors; Chris Sheets, president of the Cape Girardeau board; and Rosemary Bishop, Cape division board member.
The Cape Girardeau Board received the Development award for 1990-91, for raising money above its annual campaign goal and exceeding the statewide average. Cape County was one of only 12 counties to achieve this awards of excellence.
