JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A Missouri trial judge is setting aside several days to examine new congressional districts after the state Supreme Court ordered further review of the new map.
Online court records show Cole County Circuit Judge Dan Green has scheduled what's expected to be a three-day hearing beginning Jan. 31.
The Missouri Supreme Court this week ordered further review of claims that the redrawn U.S. House districts are unconstitutional because they're not sufficiently compact. Missouri is dropping from nine districts to eight based on the 2010 census.
Time is running short to develop the new U.S. House map because candidate filing for this year's elections opens Feb. 28. The state high court gave Green until Feb. 3 to complete the additional hearings and make his judgment.
