Head Start begins taking applications

Head Start and Early Head Start, preschool programs for children ages up to 4, are accepting applications.

Children must be age 3 or 4 by July 1 to be eligible for Head Start. To apply, contact Head Start or Early Head Start Center 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by calling the central office at 800-755-3841.

The nearest center may be found online at www.daeoc.org. Tours are available of Head Start centers.

Parents must have a child's birth certificate or hospital record, proof of family income and inoculation record, Medicaid card or insurance card and individualized education program or individualized family service plan if applicable.

Head Start offers services for children with special needs and home-based services for expectant mothers.
