POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A Harviell, Mo., man remains in jail following his weekend arrest on a warrant charging him with raping and sodomizing a young girl over an extended period of time.
Stanley Turrentine Sr., 48, was booked at the Butler County Jail on Sunday on the warrant for statutory rape and three counts of first-degree statutory sodomy.
In the complaint filed with the court, Turrentine is accused of having sexual and deviant sexual intercourse with a 5-year-old girl during the period of from September 2000 through September 2001.
"On June 20, (the 5-year-old victim) reported Turrentine forced her to perform oral intercourse, sexual intercourse and deviate sexual intercourse at his residence," Butler County/Poplar Bluff Child Abuse Detective Tonya Pride said in her probable cause affidavit on file with the court.
A medical exam was performed by a local physician on July 5 and the doctor found "physical findings of sexual abuse," the affidavit further said.
According to reports, the Butler County Sheriff's Department learned of the alleged abuse on June 19 from a Poplar Bluff police officer.
The police department had been contacted by the reporting party who lived in the city. That person reportedly told the officer that the alleged incident had happened in Harviell.
A deputy responded and took statements from the witnesses. The investigation was then turned over to Pride for follow-up.
