Hartford's, 301 S. Broadview, has been recognized as the 1991 Employer of the Year by the Cape Girardeau Business and Professional Women's Club.

The annual award recognizes a firm's responsiveness to the need of women employees.

"The award was developed through the National Federation of BPW," said Caroline Ewing, a past president of the local club. "Included in the criteria are the number of personal and professional benefits provided, including flexible hours, staff development courses for career enhancement, and the development of new work talent."

Hartford's has more than 30 full- and part-time employees. They range from high school students to senior citizens.

Ewing emphasized that the award was not presented every year.

Past recipients include Boatmen's Bank, St. Francis Medical Center, Southeast Missouri Hospital, Southeast Missouri State University, Famous Barr, and Dr. Jay Sheets, a local oral surgeon.
