Missouri governor candidate Catherine Hanaway stopped Saturday at My Daddy’s Cheesecake in Cape Girardeau to speak with prospective voters as the Republican primary election nears.
Introducing the candidate, state Rep. Donna Lichtenegger (R-Jackson) thanked her for not “playing the ‘woman’ card.”
“I get really upset when people do that,” Lichtenegger said, to applause.
Hanaway reiterated her stance on several of the top issues that have surfaced during the race.
Citing her “A” rating from the National Rifle Association, she expressed her support for constitutional carry of firearms and said she would sign a constitutional carry bill, unlike current Gov. Jay Nixon, who vetoed a bill this year that would have allowed conceal-carry of a firearm without a permit.
She stated her opposition to Planned Parenthood expansion and Common Core educational standards.
“Please vote for me, but if not, still please vote,” Hanaway urged those attending.
Lichtenegger also called Hanaway the only republican who can compete with Chris Koster, the most likely Democratic candidate for governor, in the general election.
