Severe thunderstorms dropped golfball-size hail and were responsible for knocking out power in a Cape Girardeau neighborhood.
A downed power line near Westfield West Park sent sparks flying across Pat Patterson's neighbor's yard on Bloomfield Road.
Patterson, who lives at 2700 Bloomfield Road, said at approximately 6:45 p.m., a downed power line was burning large holes in his neighbor's grass.
Cape Girardeau Fire Department Capt. Brian Shaffer said two power lines went down during the storm and knocked out power just east of the mall. No injuries were reported.
Power was still out late Sunday evening and calls to AmerenUE were not returned.
David Hitt, Cape Girardeau County emergency operations coordinator, said there were no reports of tornadoes in the county.
"We had a lot of hail and rain but no real wind damage," Hitt said. No storm-related accidents were reported in the area on Sunday evening.
KFVS12 meteorologist John Dissauer said he received unconfirmed reports of a tornado sightings southwest of Parma, Mo., and east of Dexter, Mo., along U.S. 60.
Dissauer said there is a risk for severe weather today and Tuesday.
