Habitat for Humanity provides decent housing in a decent neighborhood for families who otherwise could not afford to own their own home.
Through Habitat for Humanity, community volunteers work beside family members to build or remodel a home.
The agency targets families in Cape Girardeau County, but is currently managing projects in Bootheel counties. To date, including houses at Hayti, the agency has provided homes for 22 people in need, including 15 who live in Cape County.
In the coming year, Habitat for Humanity plans to begin a new home in the Red Star District of Cape Girardeau and is considering moving a house from the future site of the Mississippi River bridge route to another site.
