HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity provides decent housing in a decent neighborhood for families who otherwise could not afford to own their own home.

Through Habitat for Humanity, community volunteers work beside family members to build or remodel a home.

The agency targets families in Cape Girardeau County but is currently managing projects in several Bootheel counties. To date, including houses at Hayti, the agency has provided homes for 22 people in need, including 15 who live in Cape County. Two houses were completed in Cape Girardeau last year.

Habitat for Humanity is in the process of beginning a new home on Water Street in the Red Star District of Cape Girardeau and is considering moving three houses from the future site of the Mississippi River bridge route to another site.
