The Cape Area Habitat for Humanity handed over the keys to its ninth home in Cape Girardeau Sunday afternoon at a dedication service.
Vaniasn Green and her three children are the proud owners of the home at 45 Green Acres Drive.
Cape area Habitat board members, guests and the new owners were on hand for the dedication ceremony Sunday.
Habitat purchased five lots in Green Acres and has built four houses in the subdivision.
Volunteer labor, donations of money and materials, fund-raising efforts and a lot of "sweat equity" by the new owner made the home a reality for Green.
"Every house is another wonderful milestone," says Bill Cheeseman, Habitat president. "Building a Habitat home is truly a community effort and this is our way of thanking the community."
Habitat for Humanity seeks to build lives, families and communities as well as houses, he said.
Families who might not otherwise be able to afford a home can often do so with Habitat's help. For more information about Habitat projects, call 334-9728.
