SSgt. Menard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Menard of Cape Girardeau.
He graduated from Central High School in 1978 and attended Southeast Missouri State University for two years. While a student there, he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity.
He then joined the Army and has made it his career.

He spent several years at Ft. Bragg, N.C., with the 82nd Airborne. He is now a member of the 5th Special Forces Group, which was at Fort Campbell, Ky., before being deployed to Saudi Arabia in early September.
His wife and son currently live at Fort Campbell. His mother said he would appreciate letters from old friends.
