Martin is the son of Glenda Martin of McClure, Ill., and the late Charlest Martin.
He is a 1986 graduate of Shawnee High School, where he was a member of the marching band.
He joined the Navy in August of 1986, enlisting for three years. He then re-enlisted for six years and was stationed in Jacksonville, Fla., aboard the USS McInerney.
He is a specialist in mechanics and hydraulics.

He was deployed to the Persian Gulf Jan. 11. According to his mother and girlfriend, Angie, he loves listening to music, working on his truck and eating chocolate chip cookies. He would also love to hear from friends and relatives, his mother said.
