Guilty plea given in drug case

A Sikeston, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to one count of distribution of cocaine base. Before U.S. District Judge Jean C. Hamilton, Michael S. Sheron, 32, entered the plea, a release from U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway stated. On July 25, Sheron sold 16.3 grams of crack cocaine to a confidential informant for $450. Sheron was scheduled to be sentenced May 22, and he could face up to 40 years imprisonment and a $2 million fine.

Prison sentence ordered on firearms violations

A federal judge Monday sentenced a 31-year-old man to more than seven years in prison for illegally possessing four guns. Deon Wilson, of Caruthersville, Mo., received an 87-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Jean C. Hamilton for one felony count of possession of firearms by a felon. During an execution of a state search warrant for Wilson's home on Sept. 8, four firearms and several rounds of ammunition were found, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway. Wilson is not allowed to possess firearms due to a previous conviction.
