Children in Cape won't be able to complain about being bored this summer. Three local organizations are providing daily summer programs for children and teens filled with safe and fun activities.
Boys & Girls Club of Cape Girardeau, at 232 Broadway, is offering children a summer program daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through to Aug. 8 for youths ages 5 to 18. The activities emphasize fun in learning math, reading, science, computer technology, sports and recreation and visual and performing arts. The organization will also sponsor field trips, plays, scavenger hunts and even karate, dance lessons and entrepreneurship classes for participants.
At the end of the summer, the organization will hold an awards ceremony that honors accomplishments of area youth and recognizes local sponsors. For more information, call NaTika Rowles at 335-7141.
Cape Area Family Resource Center, at 1202 S. Sprigg, kicked off its summer program June 16. This program is from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and continues until Aug. 8. The center plans activities for children 7 to 16 including computers, cooking, bowling and tie-dying. A trip to Mud Island and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Civil Rights Museum is planned for July 24. A dance program has also been added.
Tiffany Brey, a graduate of the Dance Masters of America Teacher Training School, will conduct jazz, ballet, and tap classes free to any interested children enrolled in the summer program. For more information, call Patricia Brey at 334-8170.
