Phi Alpha Honor Society of Social Work Students has organized a week of activities to raise awareness of hunger and homeless issues in Cape Girardeau Nov. 16 through 22.
The activities are part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, sponsored annually by the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness and the National Coalition for the Homeless.
On Monday, a food and blanket drive begin.
On Tuesday, people are asked to skip a meal and donated the money to Oxfam America to fight global hunger.
On Wednesday, a personal hygiene drive will be held to benefit the Women's Safehouse.
On Thursday, people are asked to write letters against hunger and homelessness to U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson, 132 Cannon House Office Building, Washington D.C. 20515.
On Friday, a bake sale will be held at Crisp Hall on the university campus. Proceeds will go to the National Coalition for the Homeless.
Drop-off points for all items include Crisp Hall, Phi Sigma Kappa and Towers dorm on campus and West Park Mall.
Personal hygiene items can be dropped off at Alpha Chi Omega on campus. BGs Deli and Saloon is accepting blankets, bake sale donations and Skip-a-Meal donations.
