O'FALLON, Mo. -- A large crowd has turned out for a rally to support a bill that would require insurance companies to pick up more costs for autism care.
Organizers said about 2,000 people attended the rally Sunday afternoon at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in the St. Louis suburb of O'Fallon.
It brought together a diverse group that included former baseball star Darryl Strawberry, who now lives outside St. Louis and founded a not-for-profit to help autistic children.
Two members of the Missouri Senate -- Republicans Eric Schmitt and Scott Rupp -- also attended. Rupp and Schmitt argue that families should have better insurance coverage for treatment related to neurobiological disorders.
