Homemaker clubs focus on many interests -- magazines, books, friendship, arts and crafts.

"We call our club the Friendship Club," said Alma Bodenstein of Gordonville, Mo. The members are from a wide area -- Gordonville, Jackson, Mo., and Whitewater, Mo. -- "and we take on projects to help a number of people."

The club's most recent project is making a quilt.

Nine women gathered Tuesday at the Bodenstein home near Gordonville to make quilts for nursing home patients. "Tuesday was sort of a 'quiltathon,'" Bodenstein said. "We made about 15 quilts. We'll do others before we're completed with the project."

Other projects by the Friendship Club have involved programs for the Salvation Army, the Missouri Veterans Home and churches.

"And, at times, we've put together quilts for fire victims," said Bodenstein.

The Friendship Club is made up of about 15 women.

Tuesday workers included Bodenstein, Betty Grojean, Evelyn Moore, Ruth Nischwitz, Elsie Gerecke, Esther Devenport, Ruby Bock, Lola Wessell and Margaret Pfeiffer.

"We're all basically quilters," said Bodenstein, "but we do anything we can to help out the community." The group meets at the homes of members, said Bodenstein.
