To help raise money for animals this winter, the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri is trying a different type of fundraiser.
"Well, it was really the idea of the workers, the shelter staff," said
Cheryl Ellis, the not-for-profit organization's director. "We were just looking for something different that hasn't been done before."
In conjunction with Food Giant on North Kingshighway, the Humane Society is sponsoring a grocery shopping spree raffle. The winner will have eight minutes to shop around the grocery store, collecting as many items as they can.
Certain restrictions apply: The winner cannot receive alcohol or tobacco products, and only two of each item can be loaded in a cart.
Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. The Humane Society also will award second- and third-place prizes. Second place is a $50 gift card to Buchheit's, and third is $25 to Wings Etc.
The money raised goes toward caring for the animals at the Humane Society. With winter approaching, the shelter is in need of things such as Purina dog food, bleach and blankets for the animals to cuddle in.
Tickets can be purchased through Dec. 7 at the Humane Society, Food Giant, Busch Pet Products and Mississippi Mutts.
The winner will be chosen Dec. 8, and the shopping spree will take place Dec. 16.
