Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to a report of a green substance in a creek alongside Kingshighway Monday night.
Roughly five fire engines were at the scene to inspect the substance, which was in a creek alongside southbound Kingshighway just south of Cape Rock Drive. The substance did not appear to be harmful and was contained with Styrofoam tubing, fire chief Rick Ennis said. Firefighters did not don hazardous material gear to handle the substance.
Ennis said he was unsure what the substance was and where it came from.
