Schnuck's Markets recalled all cans of its store brand of French-style green beans in response to a notice from the manufacturer that some lots of its product are potentially contaminated, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
A check of the inventories at the more than 100 Schnuck's stores showed that the grocery chain only received two cases of the beans from lots identified as possibly undercooked by the manufacturer, Lakeside Foods, Inc. of Manitowoc, Wisc. But as a precaution, spokeswoman Lori Willis said, all cans of the product are being pulled from store shelves and anyone who purchased a can may return ito the store for a refund.
"We are taking the extra precaution of pulling all French style green beans," Willis said. "You can be assured that any product involved in this recall has been pulled from shelves across all markets."
Calls to the Schnuck's on Kingshighway were referred to Willis.
Lakeside produces food products that are sold under a variety of brand names, including Schnuck's, Best Choice, Valu Time, No Name, Best Choice and Thrifty Maid. The beans were distributed in 20 states from lot numbers EAA5247, EAA5257, EAA5267, EAA5277, EAB5247, EAB5257, ECA5207, ECA5217, ECA5227, ECA5297, ECB5207, ECB5217, ECB5227 and ECB5307 on the top line of the can code, a news release from Lakeside said.
"In their information, there have been no reported illnesses and to this date none of the product testing has come back positive for botulism," Willis said. "This is a voluntary, precautionary recall."
