Greater Dimension Ministries Church of God in Christ is hosting its second annual Bridge Project on Friday and Saturday at 723 Hackberry St. in Cape Girardeau. The Bridge Project is a symposium to educate youths ages 5 to 23 on health and wellness, education, financial literacy and social awareness.

"The Bridge Project is a transitional program that was birthed from our music ministry combined with our pastor's vision to prepare [them] for the future," said special events coordinator LaCrissa Bird.

The event will begin with a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Greater Dimension. The concert will feature minister Kevin Lemons and Higher Calling from Atlanta. Bird said the group was suggested by Greater Dimension's music ministry. She said it would be good experience for the music ministry to have Lemons there because he grew up in the church and is a professional in the music industry.

Bird said Greater Dimension's praise and worship team, Divine Worship and Praise from Carbondale, Ill., and minister Jeffery Price of Poplar Bluff, Mo., will also perform.

Saturday's events will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The youths will hear presentations by local professionals during breakout sessions and seminars, Bird said.

Greater Dimension member Tamarra Thompson attended the first Bridge Project and said people should come and support the event this year. "I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed the seminars and praise and worship," Thompson said.

Bird said the financial literacy portion is to help young people better handle their money.

"This [program] demonstrates how they can begin to bring money into their households legally and save," Bird said. Local banks will have representatives at the event to help people open accounts.

Bird said she hopes the program helps young people become successful.

"The spiritual man leads you, but we know that they also have to have the knowledge," Bird said.

Bird said she expects 60 to 100 people to register for the event. "Last year we had a lot of success," she said. "They now have jobs, go to college and opened bank accounts. Although the number [of young people] wasn't very high, the positive responses from the event made it successful."

Registration is open to the public and is free for ages 5 to 12, and $5 for ages 13 to 23. For more information or to register, call 334-0616 or e-mail greaterd.bridgeproject@gmail.com.
