"The Clinton Presidency at Midpoint" and "Russia and Its Neighbors: U.S. Policy Choices" are among the topics to be discussed when the Great Decisions program convenes during the spring semester at Southeast Missouri State University.
Great Decisions is a national program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, a non-partisan organization in Washington that seeks to promote understanding of American foreign policy choices. Each year, the organization selects topics to be discussed at sites nationwide.
Nine topics are slated for discussion during the spring semester. The schedule:
-- Feb. 2, "The Clinton Presidency at Midpoint."
-- Feb. 9, "Russia and Its Neighbors: U.S. Policy Choices."
-- Feb. 16, "Nuclear Proliferation: Can It be Capped?"
-- Feb. 23, "United Nations at 50: Reaching Out or Overreaching?"
-- March 2, "Middle East: Lasting Steps to Peace?"
-- March 16, "Global Finance: Trade and Capital in Flux."
-- March 23, "China, Taiwan, Hong Kong: Greater China Challenge."
-- March 30, "Immigration: An End to Open Doors?"
-- April 6, "Democratization: Defining U.S. Goals."
The programs, which are open to the public, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the University Center Program Lounge. There is a $10 cost per participant for discussion booklets.
