The city of Jackson was awarded a federal enhancement funding grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Funds will be used for the Oak Street Recreational Trail Project, which should be completed by next summer.
MoDOT funds are allocated under a provision of federal transportation legislation designating 10 percent of a transportation agency's surface transportation program budget for projects such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, historic sites, landscaping and other restoration projects.
Local entities that apply for the enhancement fund must match at least 20 percent of the cost.
Jackson's public works director, Rodney Bollinger, said that the city will match 30 percent of the cost, MoDOT will fund the other 70 percent for the recreational trail. Total cost for the project will be $232,610; MoDOT will provide $162,827.
The recreational trail will travel from the intersection of West Lane along Oak Street into the city park.
