A Tuesday night fire in Cape Girardeau resulted in moderate fire and smoke damage to an apartment, but the occupants were able to flee the blaze. According to a news release issued by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, a call was received about 10:50 p.m. for a fire at Cape LaCroix Apartments. When fire crews arrived at the scene, fire and smoke were observed coming from the front window of the apartment. A hose line was run through the front door and the fire that was burning in the living room was extinguished. A grandmother who lived in the apartment was alerted to the fire by her grandson, and they both safely exited the apartment, the release said.
