Russel Faust of Cape Girardeau has been named to the Order of Distinguished Older Missourians, in part because of his effort to obtain a building for Cape Girardeau's Senior Center.
He was honored by Gov. Mel Carnahan at a luncheon May 26 in Jefferson City.
The Order of Distinguished Older Missourians honors men and women 60 years of age and older who have made and/or are making a distinctive contribution toward involving their community with outreach to the elderly.
Faust is serving his third year as council president and has served on the board of directors at the senior center for five year.
Under his leadership, property was purchased and construction began for new building to house the senior center.
He also delivers meals to shut-ins three days a week. He served on the committee which initiated, worked for an passed a county-wide Senior Citizens' Services Fund Tax.
Faust is also active in FISH and Centenary Methodist Church.
