Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff to honor trooper
JEFFERSON CITY -- Flags will fly at half-staff at all state government buildings Wednesday to honor a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer who died while patrolling floodwaters in northwest Missouri in August. Gov. Jay Nixon ordered the honor for trooper Fred Guthrie Jr., who has not been seen since Aug. 1, when he and his patrol dog, Reed, apparently were swept away by the flooding Missouri River in Holt County.

A memorial service for the 46-year-old Guthrie is scheduled for Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, Mo.
The dog's body was found Aug. 2 near where Guthrie's truck was found. Despite extensive searches, Guthrie's body has not been found
The patrol declared Guthrie dead on Sept. 28.
