GOP leader's son injured in plane crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The 19-year-old son of incoming Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was slightly injured in the crash of a small plane Friday.

William Harrison Frist Jr., a freshman at Princeton University, was a passenger aboard a private plane that flipped over during takeoff at foggy John C. Tune Airport, said Nick Smith, a spokesman for the senator.

Also on board were Henry Lee Barfield, 55, the senator's brother-in-law, and Barfield's son Lee Cole Barfield, 22, police spokesman Don Aaron said. All three suffered minor injuries, Aaron said.

The three were treated at Centennial Medical Center, the first hospital in the HCA Inc. chain founded by the senator's father and brother.

The younger Barfield was piloting the Cessna 182S, which was registered to his father, authorities said.
