The third of five Southeast Missouri State University students charged in connection with the Dec. 13 assault of a fellow student has been granted a change of venue to New Madrid County.
Circuit Court Judge William L. Syler granted the change of venue Monday.
Jared Goodson, 22, of Cape Girardeau is charged with felony first-degree burglary for unlawfully entering 1325 Dunklin St., where he allegedly damaged property, while Blake Carlton, a Southeast junior was assaulted by other students who are codefendants in the case.
Brett Jones, of St. Clair, Mo., charged with burglary and third-degree assault, was granted his change of venue to New Madrid County March 1 and Antonio Garritano, of Jackson, will appear in court in Cape Girardeau County May 25.
Pili Showers, also charged with first-degree burglary, was granted his change of venue last week.
Derek Gohn, the third student charged with burglary, has yet to appear for his preliminary hearing. The hearing is set for April 13 at 2 p.m.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, Jones told police officers that he didn't see anyone but Garritano strike Carlton and that he saw Goodson throw a bottle and make a mess in the house. Gohn, he said, flipped over a table at the residence.
Showers was said to have entered the home with the rest of the students. The affidavit outlines no action taken by Showers.
No new court date was set for Goodson.
