'Good Morning America' inquires about interviewing SEMO grads

ABC's "Good Morning America" may put the spotlight on Southeast Missouri State University graduating seniors Jon and Megan Thrower of Cape Girardeau.

The show's staff contacted the Throwers after reading about the high-school dropouts turned college graduates in an Associated Press wire story that originated from an article published in the Southeast Missourian on Monday.

Jon Thrower, an English major who previously played drums in various punk rock bands, said the show's staff want a videotape of the couple graduating at the ceremony which takes place at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Show Me Center.

"The university is going to film it for us," Thrower said.

The video will be sent to the morning show staff.

"They said if their producers were interested they'd either send a camera crew here to interview us or send us to New York City for the show," he said.

Both Jon and Megan Thrower dropped out of Cape Girardeau Central High School in the 1990s before getting their general education development degrees and later enrolling in college. They were married on Dec. 29, 2000.

He will graduate with a bachelor's degree in English. She will graduate with a bachelor of fine arts degree.
