A Missouri State Highway Patrol negotiator was called to the scene and other officers were called to assist in securing the house. Masters fired a shot inside the residence and three shots through a window at a sheriff's deputy who was observing the house.

Masters left the house after talking to the negotiator and discarded the gun. Authorities used pepper spray on Masters after he refused to comply with police orders to lay face down on the ground.

He has been charged with one count of assault on a law enforcement officer and unlawful use of a weapon and is being held in the Bollinger County Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond.
