CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The First International Glasnost Ballet will be presented at Shryock Auditorium on Tuesday as part of the 1991-92 Celebrity Series.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. in the auditorium on the Southern Illinois University campus.

The Glasnost Ballet brings together 12 prima ballerinas and premier dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow, the Kirov Ballet of St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) and the National Ballet of Czechoslovakia in Prague.

The ballet, first conceived in 1989, is designed to explore developing East-West relations. It includes classical and expressive duets choreographed in traditional and modern styles. Duets featured include selections from "Giselle," "Swan Lake," "Don Quixote" and "Bluebird."

Many of the dancers have won international ballet competitions.

Tickets are $14 and $16 and are available at the auditorium or by phone at (618) 453-2787.

In conjunction with the ballet, Carbondale Community Arts is sponsoring a ballet clinic that will be taught by former Bolshi dancer Anna Kravets. Kravets uses the Bolshi system of training with the most advanced techniques in ballet.
