The Otahki Council presented the Gold Award to 13 Senior Girls Scouts at a council-wide older girl Recognition Ceremony on Sunday. The annual ceremony was held at the University Center Ballroom at Southeast Missouri State University.
Girls who received this prestigious award were: Darla Counts, Scott City; Kerry Comte, Andrea Dunker, Jennifer Hildebrand, Amy Krieger, Emily Kutz, Sherrie Lappe, Vicki Pryor and Olanda Reitzel, Perryville; Donna Chandler, Christine Duncan, and Olivia Vance, Marble Hill; and Stephanie Nave, Anna, Ill.
The Gold Award, the highest recognition in Girl Scouting, is awarded to those Senior Girl Scouts who earn the Leadership Award, the Career Exploration pin, do service for their community by planning and carrying out a project.
Also at the ceremony, 61 Girl Scouts reecived the Silver Award which is the highest recognition for Cadette Girl Scouts.

Guest speaker for the event was Dr. Bernice Coar-Cobb who teaches at Southeast Missouri University. Master of Ceremonies was Carrie Beth Smith, past graduated Senior Girl Scout and presently is Assistant Director of Girl Scout Camp Cherokee Ridge.
The Girl Scout Council praised the Cape Girardeau Elks #639 who recognized the outstanding efforts of Gold Award recipients by purchasing the pins and certificates. Jeff Gentry, exalted ruler and Stan Turner, activities chairman, represented the Elks in the presentations.
