Girls Scouts are celebrating their 80th anniversary Sunday with a special ceremony honoring 80 "Women of Distinction."

The public is invited to attend the event, which begins at 2 p.m. at Cape Girardeau Central High School.

Millie Turner, public relations director of the Otahki Girl Scout Council, said 80 women represent the 11 counties served by the council. The women were selected for their contribution to the community and the fact that they provide positive role models for girls.

The Women of Distinction will be ushered in by scouts wearing different uniforms from the past 80 years. Girls will also present short skits about each of the decades.

A car show, also showing cars from the past 80 years, will be held in the parking lot, weather permitting.

Scout troops will also display posters describing service projects on the theme "Girl Scouts Care for the Earth."

About 250 girls are expected to participate in the program.

The program ends with a parade of international flags and a song, "We Change the World."
