Donna Ballman of Perryville was only the second person to receive the Thanks Badge II from the Otahki Girl Scout Council.
Ballman was one of dozens of adult Girl Scout volunteers who were honored Saturday at an appreciation luncheon in Jackson. The Thanks Badge is one of the highest awards given to volunteers by the Otahki Girl Scout Council, Inc.
More than 2,500 girls and 800 adults in eight counties of Missouri and three counties in Southern Illinois are part of the Otahki Girl Scout Council, Inc.
Ballman has been active in scouting for 23 years and has served as a troop leader, day camp director and training instructor for the council.
Renita Anderson of Perryville and Susan Clutts of Cobden, Ill., were given the Thanks Badge for their service as troop leaders and camp directors.
Debra Mansker of Scott City, Conda Nave of Anna, Ill., Judy Rhodes of Marble Hill, Barbara Scheper of Jackson, Joy Braeuner of Oak Ridge and Darlene Kiefer of Perryville received the Honor Pin for outstanding service "beyond the expectations of positions held."
One group of volunteers were recognized by their peers for active service in recycling, day camp, cookie sales, annual giving and other troop events. They include Kathy Lloyd of Anna, Ill.; Mary Jane Fieser and Sue Dickerson, both of Jackson; Jan Brown, Peggy DeWilde and Elaine Blair, all of Perryville; Virginia Robert of Scott City; and Norman Goehman and Avon Crocker, both of Cape Girardeau.
Other Girl Scouts who were honored include Doris McBryde of Jackson and Joy Brauener of Oak Ridge for cookie sales coordination; Laura Bennett of Cape Girardeau and Terri Tomlin of Jackson for QSP subscriptions; Jolene Brauener of Oak Ridge, Amanda Gibson of Cairo, Ill., and Casie Hamlin of Fredericktown as top cookie sellers.
Outstanding troop leaders were Debra Dunning and Dorothy Bossaller of Alexander County, Ill.; Patty Huber, Sandie Suhre and Mary Ellen Mohundro of Cape Girardeau; Gale Bohannon, Joseph and M.J. Schram of Dogwood service unit; Betsy Ferguson and Ruth Hays of Patton; Peggy and Sister Mary Jansen of Rolling Hills service unit; Alethea England and Sheryl Kula of Shawnee service unit; and Mary Jane Fieser, Cathy Friese and Helen Spooler of Tsalagi service unit.
Community partnership awards were given to The Banner Press in Marble Hill, Elks Lodge 639 in Cape Girardeau, New McKendree Church in Jackson, the Nutrition Center in Chaffee, and Riverside Regional Library at Perryville.
