JACKSON -- The Otahki Girl Scout Council recently hosted its annual appreciation dinner for volunteers at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson. Shirley Beggs, Otahki Council president, served as master of ceremonies.

The highest award in adult girl scouting - the Thanks Badge - was presented to Barbara Kempster of Scott City; Carolyn Goodin of Cape Girardeau; and Deanna Friedrich of Oak Ridge. To receive the Thanks Badge, an adult must have registered and worked with Girl Scouting for at least 10 years as an adult, served in a position at the troop, service unit and council level, giving service significantly above the expectations of the task.

The Honor Pin was presented to Doris Koeberl of Jackson, Carlene Clingingsmith of Oak Ridge, Ted Ballman of Perryville, and Mrs. Ron Keller of Cape Girardeau. The Honor Pin is presented to adults who have given service as an adult for at least seven years, and giving service in at least two levels.

Appreciation Pins were presented to Paulette Maevers, Mary Sue Emmons, Jeannie Allgood, and Tom Hinkebein, all from Cape Girardeau; Sue Stiegemeyer from Jackson; Renita Anderson from Perryville; Conda Nave from Anna, Ill.; and Sharon McAtee from Advance.

The girls who were the top cookie sellers of the council were also honored. They are: Amanda Jones, from Anna, Ill. who sold 611 boxes; Emilie Statler from Jackson, who sold 461 boxes; and Jessica Braeuner from Oak Ridge who old 375 boxes.

The Juliette Low Award was given to the Cape Girardeau Service Unit for having the highest rate of penetration of membership. In Cape Girardeau, one out of every five girls is a member of Girl Scouts.

Recognition was given to Mary Kay Day from Cape Girardeau who served as the Council fund drive chairman for the past year. Mary Roe and Mrs. Keith Keller were honored as cookie sales coordinators for the council.

Each of the 11 geographic service units of the council selected their own outstanding troop leader and volunteer for outstanding service in their area. Those honored were:

Cape Girardeau: Mary Meyer, Beth McFerron, Pat Smith and Paul Renka, volunteers; Carol DelVecchio, Linda Tansil, Shiela Hency and Cheryl Riley, leaders.

Scott City: Terrie Laubach, volunteer; Jill Baker, leader.

Patton: Nancy Halbrook, leader.

Perryville: Evelyn Rehagen, Ken Lappe and Rose Lappe, volunteers; Ida Krieger, leader.

Marble Hill area: Howard Dowd, volunteer; Manota Cowell, leader.

Anna, Ill. area: Norene Keller, volunteer; Jackie Beatty, leader.

Jackson area: Sue Dickerson, Barb Scheper, and Joy Brauner, volunteers; and Linda Schoen, Carlene Clingingsmith, and Donna Illers, leaders.

Chaffee area: Nan Whistler, volunteer, and Kathy Moore, leader.

Leader favors were made and presented by the Jackson area leaders. The Ellington leaders made the table decorations. The closing was presented by the leaders from Perryville using the theme "We Change the World."
