Girl Scouts from area learn about trains and railroads

About 165 Girl Scouts, leaders and friends from Cape Girar-deau, Jackson, Scott City, Bell City, Mo., Greenville, Mo., Fredericktown, Mo., Altenburg, Mo., Anna, Ill., Dongola, Ill., and Jonesboro, Ill., rode the St. Louis Iron Mountain Railway recently. Scouts had the opportunity to earn the "Railroading" badge.
Train volunteers from the St. Louis Iron Mountain Railway presented information on the different types of train cars including the railroad's 102-year old-caboose and engine.

Certified Operation Lifesaver instructor Dickie McLendon presented a safety program pioneered by the railroad industry.
Jackson resident Patsy Johnson, a longtime Scout and train volunteer, presented a historical fashion show of Scout uniforms spanning 60 years.
