Cape Girardeau rescue personnel were dispatched to Cape Splash on Monday afternoon after a girl there had a medical emergency.
Terrell Butler, a visitor at Cape Splash, said he was the first to respond when he saw the girl was unresponsive. He proceeded to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation until Cape Splash lifeguards came to help. Rescuers arrived at the park about 4 p.m.
The girl was responsive by the time emergency medical workers arrived, and she was taken to an area hospital. Her condition remains unknown.
Patrick Watson, aquatic supervisor for the Central Municipal Pool and Cape Splash, said the lifeguards at Cape Splash responded to the emergency situation "in a very tactful manor and followed emergency protocol to the T."
Butler and Watson would not elaborate on what happened to the girl.
Monday was the final day of the season for the Cape Splash facility.
