If you've seen Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck or Sylvester in town during the past two days, it's because Six Flags Over Mid America is in Cape Girardeau promoting the 1992 season.
"We're looking forward to a great year," said Elizabeth Gotway, public relations supervisor for Six Flags.
Gotway said many of the shows this year are oriented toward family entertainment, including this year's premier ride, called "Castaway Kids' Jungle Adventure."
The ride is based on six kids, their zebra friend and their ride through a fictitious jungle, where they encounter wild animals and robbers in pursuit of a buried treasure.
Gotway said the ride isn't a "thrill ride" like the 110-foot tall Screamin' Eagle or Colossus, but its similar to the Log Flume or Thunder River.
"We've gearing it toward kids and families," she said.
It opens April 11, when the park opens for weekends. The park will be open daily beginning May 19.
The cast from the Palace Music Hall and the Looney Tunes characters have been visited West Park Mall and Cape Girardeau hospitals promoting the 1992 season since Tuesday.
Other entertainers scheduled for the season include Michael W. Smith and Kim Hill on April 18; Vince Gill on May 23; Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch on June 5; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles June 10-21; The Temptations and The Four Tops on June 27; Sandi Patti on July 25; Acapella on Aug. 3; Reba McEntire on Aug. 15; and the Charlie Daniels Band on Sept. 26.
Gotway said several Christian shows are scheduled as well.
"These shows have proven to be very popular," she said. "We tried this a couple of years ago and the response was unbelievable. We tried it again last year and the response was the same."
This year, Southern Gospel Day on Sept. 19 will feature The Lesters, Gold City, The Kingsmen and JD & The Stamps. On Sept. 5, DC Talk and Petra will present a Christian show.
Other attractions at the park this year include "Tremors," a dance club for teens, Rhythm Nation at the Palace Music Hall (a review of gospel and country music), and musical comedy shows at Miss Kitty's. "Bourbon Street Follies" will be playing at the Bugs Bunny Theater.
