A gas leak caused the evacuation of a Cape Girardeau business early Thursday.

According to assistant fire chief Mark Hasheider, about 1 a.m. firefighters responded to a call about a natural gas smell at the Pour House Pub, 113 Broadway. The business was evacuated before firefighters arrived. The 100 block of Broadway was closed to the public as a precaution. Firefighters entered the building to close the gas line and used fans to ventilate it.

There were no injuries, and an appliance in the business may have been the source of the leak, Hasheider said.
