As the price of gas at Kidd's dipped below $2, motorists reading the sign from the afternoon traffic on Broadway swung into the parking lot toward the pumps.

The price dropped to $1.99 around 1 p.m. Thursday, about a nine-cent decrease in the past 24 hours, a clerk at Kidd's said.

Since then, the traffic at the pumps remained steady, though not exceptionally busy, the clerk said.

"I saw $1.99 as I was passing through, and I thought 'Wow, I have not seen that in so long,'" Kyle Hinton said after filling his car.

Emily Williams, a student at Southeast Missouri State University, said her boyfriend called and told her about the low price when he noticed the sign, prompting her to make a trip over to fill up.
