A personality familiar to millions will take to the stage Wednesday night at the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. Garrison Keillor, known for his stories from Lake Wobegon and other tales of Americana told on his radio program "A Prairie Home Companion," will perform his one-man act for a sold-out house.
"He's going to be telling stories from his experiences," said Dan Woods, general manager of KRCU. "Folks that are familiar with the radio show will likely recognize many of the scenes and the settings that they hear every week on the show."
Keillor was last in the area in 2005 with a show at Carbondale, Ill.
"The way that show went, Keillor started with morning coffee and took the audience through his day," Woods said. "If you like the scripted 'Prairie Home,' you'll like his candid remarks about life even better."
"For this part of the country, it will just be perfect," Woods said.
Keillor has received many awards for both his audio and literary work, including a Grammy in 1994 for his recording of his best-selling book, "Lake Wobegon Days." "A Prairie Home Companion" is heard by more than 4 million listeners weekly on 590 radio stations.
KRCU airs "A Prairie Home Companion" at 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays.
Though the show is sold out, KRCU still has a few seats left. Those interested may call 651-5070 for more information.
