Citizens Against Riverboat Gambling will have a press conference at 4:30 p.m. today in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church, 235 Broadway.
The press conference will precede the kick-off of the campaign to defeat riverboat gambling in Cape Girardeau.
In June, Cape Girardeau voters rejected gambling by a margin of 53-47 percent. But proponents of the measure secured sufficient signatures in a petition initiative to force another vote Nov. 2.
Today's news conference will include members of the Citizens Against Riverboat Gambling Steering Committee, who will answer questions about the campaign.
Charles Grant, a spokesman for the committee who is slated to speak at the news conference, said the committee is "fully operational and preparing to defeat riverboat gambling on Nov. 2."
Also, Andy Pratt will be present as a representative of Students Against Riverboat Gambling.
