SIKESTON -- Several reports of a tornado touching down near Sikeston during a furious rain storm Monday afternoon could not be confirmed by the National Weather Service.

According to the weather service and initial reports from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, funnel clouds were reportedly seen northwest of Sikeston around 3:30 p.m.

Tornado sirens were sounded in Sikeston. No damage was reported.

Several funnel clouds were confirmed.

The weather service said rain amounts between three-fourths of an inch and 1 1/2 inch were reported between Bloomfield and Paducah, Ky. Wind gusts as high as 28 mph were measured at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
