SIKESTON, Mo. -- A fugitive involved in a high-speed chase to Scott City on Aug. 28 was arrested Friday near the Sikeston Bootheel Rodeo grounds.
Zatrun Twiggs, 24, of Cape Girardeau was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Friday after his vehicle was stopped on North Ingram Road by Sikeston's Special Operations Group. Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers, detectives and the Special Operations Group were all mobilized after receiving a tip that Twiggs was in the area.
Twiggs, who was wanted in several jurisdictions, was arrested without incident. Two other subjects in the vehicle were also arrested and are expected to be charged with hindering prosecution.
Chief Drew Juden said the arrest would not have been possible without the help of the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities had been looking for Twiggs since Aug. 28, when he led Cape Girardeau officers on a high-speed chase down Interstate 55, tucked in the back seat of a car driven by a female accomplice.
Twiggs was originally wanted on felony warrants for drug distribution and a parole violation, and the unidentified suspect stowed him away in the back of her car while she drove at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, veering onto the shoulder of the highway as she passed other drivers.
The couple managed to escape to Scott City, where Twiggs ran into the residence of an elderly couple and made the man drive him to Chaffee, Mo., according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.
Charges of home invasion, kidnapping and armed criminal action were filed in Scott County against Twiggs.
